چکیده

To support the perceptually rich and informationabundant user interfaces of the future, displays must be larger with much higher resolution. With such displays, the worrisome flood of information can be turned into a productive river of knowledge. Windows with 40-60 icons or scrolling lists with 20-40 items are inadequate for dealing with the complex tasks that users increasingly face. Advancing hardware, software, and networking technology have raised expectations for users of geographical information systems (GIS), 3-D graphics tools, information directories, scientific visualization, medical image databases, desktop publishing, programming environments, network management, video or animation editing, and other domains. These domain experts are motivated users who are attempting ambitious projects that demand rapid processing and access to large amounts of visual information, but unfortunately the window managers in graphical user interfaces (GUIs) have not kept up with the users’ needs. Consequently, the advantages of large screens and fast displays are lost, leading to confusion, poor user performance, frustration, and missed opportunities.

A New Trust Model for B2C E-Commerce Based on 3D User Interfaces

Lack of trust is one of the key bottle necks in e-commerce development. Nowadays many advanced technologies are trying to address the trust issues in e-commerce. One among them suggests using suitable user interfaces. This paper investigates the functionality and capabilities of 3D graphical user interfaces in regard to trust building in the customers of next generation of B2C e-commerce websit...

Automatic Generation of User Interfaces from Data Structure Speciications and Object-oriented Application Models

Applications in scientiic computing operate with data of complex structure and graphical tools for data editing, browsing and visualization are necessary. Most approaches to generating user interfaces provide some interactive layout facility together with a specialized language for describing user interaction. Realistic automated generation approaches are largely lacking, especially for applica...

Trends and Evolution of Window Interfaces A Discussion on Interfaces and Interaction Techniques for Window Management

The Xerox Star, the first personal computer with a graphical user interface, was developed about twenty-five years ago. Seminal work on graphical interfaces even dates back to the 1960s. However, current techniques used for window management are merely variations of methods designed in the 1980s with very little improvements. Users are more and more confronted to the fact that the direct manipu...

Multiuser interface architecture using structured distributed shared memories

We are building a window system of the next generation which provides multiuser interface functions, called the BTRON2 window system. It facilitates the construction of multiuser interfaces by using structured distributed shared memories preserving interaction objects. The main bene t of this architecture is that it can clearly divide multiuser interface modules and application core modules. Th...

Generalized, Robust, End-User Programmable, Multiple-Window Coordination

In current windowing environments, individual windows are treated independently, making it difficult for users to coordinate information across multiple windows. While coordinated multiwindow strategies are increasingly used in visualization and web user interfaces, designs are inflexible and haphazard. I propose a generalized, end-user programmable, robust, multiplewindow coordination capabili...
